Jean K Gill

My watercolors mix planning and spontaneity. I treat white as both positive and negative space, and I use values ranging from untouched, white paper to the darkest colors achievable from a preselected palette of pure hues. I paint on dry, vertical, paper with improvised areas of downward flow intentionally preserved. I exaggerate contrasts to heighten drama and express the dichotomy of chaos and order characterizing the organic, curvilinear subjects I prefer. I often use neologisms for titles; Shadoconuts is part of a palm series.
