Featured Artist of the Month

Jean K. Gill
Web:
Jean is an artist, juror, and educator with a love of both science and art. In her teaching, she encourages students to experiment with water media in the pursuit of individual style and unending personal growth.
Her own work is representational but not realistic. She mixes planning and spontaneity, stresses pattern and shape, and infuses her creations with energy, celebration, or drama. She works mostly in primary and secondary colors and enjoys exaggerating contrasts, painting the negative space, incorporating abstractions, focusing on edges, and watching the watercolors flow on vertical paper. She expresses the dichotomy of chaos and order that characterize the curvilinear, organic subjects she prefers. Shown here are paintings from her coconut series.
Jean is a signature member of many watercolor societies including AWS and NWS. Her award-winning paintings have been juried into more than 175 regional, national, and international exhibitions, and her work has appeared in numerous, watercolor publications. Jean has served on the Board of the Virginia Watercolor Society, as an officer of Potomac Valley Watercolorists, and as a chapter president and coordinating council chair of the ΔKΓ International Honor Society of Professional Women Educators.
